Request for Photos and Stories
We would love to have stories and photos out at the memorial for all to see and then turn them into a photo album after our gathering. If you wouldn't mind sending photos or stories about how your life intertwined with Alison's, it would be greatly appreciated.
You can mail them to 6821 Cherry Lane, Annandale, VA 22003 or email them to Emery ([email protected]).
We would love to hear from you!

Places to Stay
The areas closest to Madeira include Tyson's Corner and McLean, VA. You will need a car or ride to get to Madeira, so staying further away is also an option and we shouldn't have to deal with rush hour traffic since we are gathering on a Saturday. If you would like to be close but avoid Tyson's you may want to look at Merrifield (some good restaurants here) or Falls Church. Some suggestions: Embassy Suites Tysons Corner - good reviews and not right next to the malls or beltway. Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner Center - if you like malls and would enjoy shopping while in town. Staybridge Suites Tysons - McLean - if you would like to stay in McLean instead of Tysons. |
In lieu of flowers, we would love if you could give to any of the following in Alison's name...
Save the Manatees - Alison loved sharing how Florida was before Disney moved in and, as the kids were growing up, they would swim with manatees at Blue Spring State Park or tube down the springs. Growing up in Winter Park, Alison would surf, run around barefoot, and always loved the sun.
Cumming Nature Center - This is a meaningful place for our whole family and there is a gallery dedicated to Alison's parents here as well. Please click on "Add comments or instructions" and write something such as "Please direct my donation to the Cumming Nature Center in Memory of Alison Hurst"
ACLU or DNC - Alison spent many hours trying to make this world a safer and better place for everyone. She volunteered many hours, always voted, and encouraged everyone to do the same. Her last vote was cast in this past presidential election where she hoped for a different outcome. Please keep fighting for a better world now that she is gone.
Local Hospice Organizations - When hospice came in as we left the hospital behind, it was the best experience by far that we had the entire 5 months. Please feel free to support your local hospice. While I'm sure they vary, the people doing this work are, in Alison's words "Angels".
