Wisdom comes from experience and curious exploration. There is an openness you need to have in order to learn from different perspectives, remain open to changing your beliefs, and seeing every moment as an opportunity to add to your knowledge or understanding.

We have high school interns spending 5 weeks at a time with us throughout the winter and spring and I can’t wait to be challenged and questioned by them! They will be posting personal reflections and thought on the blog, so I hope you have a chance to read them and see some of the world of Water & Stone and psychology from the vantage point of  “Beginner’s Mind”. A wonderful opportunity!

Gratitude in Challenging Times

What a year it's been!

I have found that in the most challenging times when we aren't sure what is coming, it's often easier to find the things we are grateful for. Whether it's people, something we have access to, or simply being alive, there is a lot of meaning in what is around us.

Often it's hard to identify specific things in our lives because we are thinking too big or feel like something has to be life altering to count for anything. In the age of social media and comparing our worst days to people's best moments, it's even harder.

How to find the magic in small moments...
  • Notice 1 thing that makes you smile
  • Call or text 1 friend who supports you
  • Put your phone down and avoid screens for 15 minutes (I would suggest an hour, but do what works for you!)
  • Go for a walk around the block by yourself or with a friend. Notice the pace and try to slow down and breathe. What do you notice around you? Have you looked up recently?
  • Choose your favorite tea or coffee and spend the time it takes to drink it just looking out the window or reading a book (extra points if it's an actual book with paper pages!)

Currently, I am grateful for a few days in the woods before heading back to Brooklyn, NY. I am also grateful for my family, who I miss seeing on a regular basis, and the friends who have helped and supported me both while building my company and during the pandemic. At this exact moment I am also loving crystallized ginger and black tea with a little honey and milk!

It is a time of facing the unknown and all that comes with it!

The world has been flipped on its head and we are constantly having to recalibrate, so why not start a blog?

Honestly, it wasn't in my plans and I, like many, have been living day to day, finding moments of calm amid the days of chaos or exhaustion. What finally tipped the scales for this to become a reality was a simple sentence about how this could help others. I know, I'm a therapist and this is a normal thing to do in my day to day life. However, helping others from a place of sharing my own thoughts, life adventures, and ways of balancing sparked an energy I haven't felt in a while.

With this blog, I am going to make space for the quirky thoughts, exciting happenings, and curious questioning that I don't usually get to share with people. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and hopefully sparking something in you that creates a surprising ripple in your life and brings something new into being.

Here we go!
